Order of Worship

Sunday, March 14, 2021

We extend a warm welcome to all our visitors this morning! Visitors, please complete the Welcome card in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate, so we may know how best to minister to/with you. Let’s prepare our hearts with silent Bible reading, meditation, and prayer before the service begins.

*HYMN OF PRAISE             Come People of The Risen King

*CALL TO WORSHIP                                         Psalm 147:1-6

Leader: Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.

All: The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Leader: He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.

All: Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. The Lord lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.

COMMUNION (God Confirms His Promises to Us)

All:  Father, teach us not to sin with such abandon. We do it all so easily: Pretend, lie, envy, lust, criticize, brood, ignore, deny, consume, hoard, defame, distort, make excuses, and then expect an easy forgiveness for the asking. God, forgive us for our negligence of your holy character. Let us not misinterpret your patience with our sin as though it were permissiveness. Loving Father, astonish us with a wholesome, godly fear -which will not drive us to despair, but cause us to number our days and give us hearts of wisdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

*HYMN 469        How Sweet and Awesome Is The Place

*Congregation standing if able

For 2021, we are continuing to provide a basic Family Worship plan to help enable our families to more regularly worship together during the week. In each weekly bulletin, we will provide a Daily Bible Reading plan from “A Daughter of the Reformation”, weekly questions from the Heidelberg Catechism, and a hymn for you to learn together.

Week 11:

Weekly Hymn:   81 O Love of God, How Strong and True

Heidelberg Catechism–

  • Q17 Why must he at the same time be true God? /
Answer: He must be true God so that by the power of his divine nature he might bear in his human nature the burden of God’s wrath, and might obtain for us and restore to us righteousness and life
  • Q18 But who is that Mediator who at the same time is true God and a true and righteous man? /

Answer: Our Lord Jesus Christ, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption (1 Cor 1:30).
