We extend a warm welcome to all our visitors this morning! Visitors, please complete the Welcome card in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate, so we may know how best to minister to/with you. *INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

All: O God of my exodus, great was the joy of Israel’s sons when Egypt died upon the shore. Far greater the joy when the redeemer’s enemy lay crushed in the dust.  Jesus strides forth as the victor, conqueror of death, hell and all opposing might; He bursts the bands of death, tramples the powers of darkness down and lives forever. Jesus, my gracious surety, apprehended for payment of my debt, comes forth from the prison of the grave free, and triumphant over sin, Satan, and death.  Show me herein the proof that his vicarious offering is accepted, that the claims of justice are satisfied, that the devil’s scepter is shattered, that his wrongful throne is leveled.  Give me the assurance that in Christ I died, in him I rose, in his life I live, in his victory I triumph, in his ascension I shall be glorified.  Gracious Redeemer, you who were lifted up upon a cross are ascended to highest heaven. You, who as a man of sorrows were crowned with thorns, are now as Lord of life wreathed with glory.  Once, yours the deepest shame, no agony more bitter, no death more cruel. Now, no exaltation higher, no life more glorious, no advocate more effective.  In your triumph you are leading captive your enemies behind you.  What more could be done than you have done!  Your death is my life, your resurrection my peace, your ascension my hope, your prayers my comfort.  All glory and honor be yours, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Shorter Catechism–

  • Q47 What is forbidden in the first commandment? /

Answer: The first commandment forbids the denying, or not worshiping and glorifying, the true God as God, and our God;  and the giving of that worship and glory to any other, which is due to him alone.

  • Q48 What are we specially taught by these words before me in the first commandment? /
