Week 8, 2021

Order of Worship

Sunday, February 21, 2020

We extend a warm welcome to all our visitors this morning! Visitors, please complete the Welcome card in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate, so we may know how best to minister to/with you. Let’s prepare our hearts with silent Bible reading, meditation, and prayer before the service begins.

PRAISE (We Acknowledge God’s Majesty)

*HYMN 38                 Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

*CALL TO WORSHIP                                         Psalm 138:1-5

Leader: I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise.

All: I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.

Leader: On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.

All: All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth, and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord.

*PRAISE SONGS                  Lion Of Judah

                                     Christ Is Mine Forevermore

Leader:  Holy Lord, we are guilty– of pride and unbelief, of failure to find your mind in your Word, of neglect to seek you in our daily lives.
All: Our violations and shortcomings present our consciences with a long list of accusations, but they shall not stand! For we lay them all now on Christ, our sacrifice and advocate.

Leader:  Lord, subdue our weaknesses and selfishness, granting us grace to live above them. Let us not be mastered by them, but have you rule over us in liberty and power.

All: We praise and thank you for your wisdom and love, for sometimes putting us into the furnace to refine our gold and remove our dross.  Deliver us from every evil habit, everything that dims the brightness of your grace in us, everything that prevents us from taking our deepest delight in you.   We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON                         1 John 1:7

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

For 2021, we are continuing to provide a basic Family Worship plan to help enable our families to more regularly worship together during the week. In each weekly bulletin, we will provide a Daily Bible Reading plan from “A Daughter of the Reformation”, weekly questions from the Heidelberg Catechism, and a hymn for you to learn together.

Week 8:

Weekly Hymn:   295 Crown Him With Many Crowns

Heidelberg Catechism–

  • Q11 But is God not also merciful? /
Answer: God is indeed merciful, but he is also just. His justice requires that sin committed against the most high majesty of God also be punished with the most severe, that is, with everlasting, punishment of body and soul

  • Q12 Since, according to God’s righteous judgment we deserve temporal and eternal punishment, how can we escape this punishment
and be again received into favour? /

Answer: God demands that his justice be satisfied. Therefore we must make full payment, either by ourselves or through another.
