Week 17, 2021

Order of Worship

Sunday, April 25, 2021

We extend a warm welcome to all our visitors this morning! Visitors, please complete the Welcome card in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate, so we may know how best to minister to/with you. Let’s prepare our hearts with silent Bible reading, meditation, and prayer before the service begins.

PRAISE (We Acknowledge God’s Majesty)

PRELUDE                                                      Children’s Choir

*HYMN OF PRAISE             Stronger

*CALL TO WORSHIP                           Isaiah 12:1-6

Leader: I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.

All: Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

Leader: Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted.

All: Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

*PRAISE SONGS             Every Ditch and Valley

                                         Eternal Weight of Glory

Leader: Lord Jesus Christ, though being in very nature God, when you came to redeem us you humbled yourself and made yourself nothing. Though you were rich, for our sakes you became poor, so that through your poverty we might become rich.

All: We confess how unlike you we are in our attitudes and actions. We strive for recognition and acclaim from others, and we become bitter if we do not get it. We look out for our own needs and concerns, failing to care for others except for when it serves our own purposes. Forgive us our sin and renew our hearts. Grant us to realize that we only achieve greatness and gain our lives by giving them away. Work in us by the power of your Spirit so that we become more like you and so bring glory to our Father in heaven. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON                         2 Corinthians 5:21

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

CONSECRATION (We Surrender Our Lives to Christ)

*HYMN 310                  Rejoice, The Lord Is King

THE OFFERING                                                      Proverbs 11:28

“Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.”

* Doxology: Hymnal, p. 733

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below: alleluia, alleluia! Praise Him above, ye heavenly host, praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

For 2021, we are continuing to provide a basic Family Worship plan to help enable our families to more regularly worship together during the week. In each weekly bulletin, we will provide a Daily Bible Reading plan from “A Daughter of the Reformation”, weekly questions from the Heidelberg Catechism, and a hymn for you to learn together.

Week 17:

Weekly Hymn:   541 When the Roll is called Up Yonder

Heidelberg Catechism–

  • Q29 Why is the Son of God called Jesus, that is, Saviour? /

Answer: Because he saves us from all our sins, and because salvation is not to be sought or found in anyone else.

  • Q30 Do those who seek their salvation or well-being in saints, in themselves, or anywhere else, also believe in the only Saviour Jesus? /

Answer: No. Though they boast of him in words, they in fact deny the only Saviour Jesus. For one of two things must be true: either Jesus is not a complete Saviour, or those who by true faith accept this Saviour must find in him all that is necessary for their salvation.

Bible Reading:

Mon – 4/26 – Acts 13-15

Tue – 4/27 – Acts 16-18

Wed – 4/28 – Acts 19-21

Thurs – 4/29 – Acts 22-24

Fri – 4/30 – Acts 25-28

Sat – 5/1 – Psalms 52-54
