COMMUNION (God Confirms His Promises to Us)

All: Gracious heavenly Father, We come confessing our blindness and stubbornness. We wanted a king and you sent Him, yet we denied Him because He did not fit our idea of what a king should be.  Lord Jesus, you came in our flesh and we denied You. Your word says: “He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.  He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.”  Forgive us for our idolatry. Forgive us for not recognizing or receiving Your perfect provision. Apart from the gracious work of the Holy Spirit in us, we would continue to deny Jesus. Open the gates and doors of our hearts to joyfully receive our Lord and Savior and truly be the children of God. We claim to be those born of God, forgive us for living in ways that deny our heritage.

*HYMN 541          When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder

*Congregation standing if able

For 2021, we are continuing to provide a basic Family Worship plan to help enable our families to more regularly worship together during the week. In each weekly bulletin, we will provide a Daily Bible Reading plan from “A Daughter of the Reformation”, weekly questions from the Heidelberg Catechism, and a hymn for you to learn together.

Week 18:

Weekly Hymn:   719 A Christian Home

Heidelberg Catechism–

  • Q25 Since there is only one God, why do you speak of three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? /

Answer: Because God has so revealed himself in his Word

that these three distinct persons are the one, true, eternal God.

  • Q26 What do you believe when you say:

I believe in God the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth? / Answer: That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth and all that is in them, and who still upholds and governs them by his eternal counsel and providence, is, for the sake of  Christ his Son, my God and my Father. In him I trust so completely as to have no doubt that he will provide me with all things necessary for body and soul, and will also turn to my good whatever adversity he sends me in this life of sorrow. He is able to do so as almighty God, and willing also as a faithful Father.
