Week 19, 2021

Order of Worship

Sunday, May 9, 2021

We extend a warm welcome to all our visitors this morning! Visitors, please complete the Welcome card in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate, so we may know how best to minister to/with you. Let’s prepare our hearts with silent Bible reading, meditation, and prayer before the service begins.

PRAISE (We Acknowledge God’s Majesty)

*HYMN OF PRAISE             Rejoice

*CALL TO WORSHIP                           Hebrews 12:1-2

Leader: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

All: Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

*PRAISE SONGS                  For The Cause

                                              Lord Have Mercy

Leader: O Lord, we want to enter your presence, worshipping you face to face awed by your majesty, greatness, and glory, yet encouraged by your love.

All: Yet there is a coldness in our hearts, a hardness toward you, an unwillingness to admit our sin and need for you. Forgive us, for Jesus’ sake. Come near and strengthen us until Christ reigns supreme within us, in every thought, word, and deed. Give us a faith that purifies the heart, overcomes the world, works by love, fastens us to you, and always clings to the cross.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON                         Psalm 37:39-40

“The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.”

CONSECRATION (We Surrender Our Lives to Christ)

*HYMN 498           Jesus, What A Friend For Sinners

THE OFFERING                                                      1Timothy 6:18-19

“They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”

* Doxology: Hymnal, p. 732

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

For 2021, we are continuing to provide a basic Family Worship plan to help enable our families to more regularly worship together during the week. In each weekly bulletin, we will provide a Daily Bible Reading plan from “A Daughter of the Reformation”, weekly questions from the Heidelberg Catechism, and a hymn for you to learn together.

Week 19:

Weekly Hymn:   648 My Jesus, I Love Thee

Heidelberg Catechism–

  • Q31 Why is he called Christ, that is, Anointed? /

Answer: Because he has been ordained by God the Father, and anointed with the Holy Spirit, to be our chief Prophet and Teacher, who has fully revealed to us the secret counsel and will of God concerning our redemption; our only High Priest, who by the one sacrifice of his body has redeemed us, and who continually intercedes for us before the Father; and our eternal King, who governs us by his Word and Spirit, and who defends and preserves us in the redemption obtained for us.

  • Q32 Why are you called a Christian? /

Answer: Because I am a member of Christ by faith and thus share in his anointing, so that I may as prophet confess his name, as priest present myself a living sacrifice of thankfulness to him, and as king fight with a free and good conscience against sin and the devil in this life, and hereafter reign with him eternally over all creatures.
