Week 3, 2022

Order of Worship

Sunday, January 16, 2022

We extend a warm welcome to all our visitors this morning! Visitors, please complete the Welcome card in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate, so we may know how best to minister to/with you. Let’s prepare our hearts with silent Bible reading, meditation, and prayer before the service begins.

PRAISE (We Acknowledge God’s Majesty)

*Call To Worship                             Psalm 5:3-4, 7, 11-12

Leader:  O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.

All: For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you.  But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house.  I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you.

Leader: But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.

All: For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.

COMMUNION (God Confirms His Promises to Us)

All: Most Holy God, our heavenly Father, we confess that You have redeemed us by Your sovereign grace. At one time we were dead in our trespasses and sins.  We were blind and could not see.  But, Father, You are rich in mercy. You caused us to be born again to a living hope. You sought us when we were strangers.  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. It is not that we sought You, Father; rather, we confess freely that it was you who sought us.  And You have called us to seek others as we have been sought. You have commanded us to preach the gospel to every creature. And, we have not sought others as we have been sought by You. Often, we have not even cared.  Our silence is sin.  Our coldness is dishonoring to You.  Forgive us, Father. Wash us afresh in the blood of the Lamb. And renew us by the Holy Spirit such that we will be changed into those who are burdened by the plight of the lost – a plight that we ourselves once were in.  Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

*HYMN 420          At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing

*Congregation standing if able

Prayers for those not taking the Lord’s Supper

Today we welcome all baptized Christians, who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and who are members of congregations that believe the Bible and proclaim the gospel, to receive the Holy Communion with us. If you are not able to receive Communion, please use this time to meditate on the following prayers:

Prayer for those searching for Truth: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent and convincing, and that leads to the life you promise. Amen.

Prayer of Belief:  Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Amen.

For 2022, we are continuing to provide a basic Family Worship plan to help enable our families to more regularly worship together during the week. In each weekly bulletin, we will provide a Daily Bible Reading plan from “A Daughter of the Reformation”, weekly questions from the Heidelberg Catechism, and a hymn for you to learn together.

Week 3:

Weekly Hymn:   420 At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing

Heidelberg Catechism

Q93 How are these commandments divided?

Answer: Into two tables. The first has four commandments, teaching us how we ought to live in relation to God. The second has six commandments, teaching us what we owe our neighbor.

Q94 What does the Lord require in the first commandment?

Answer: That I, not wanting to endanger my own salvation, avoid and shun all idolatry, sorcery, superstitious rites, and prayer to saints or to other creatures. That I rightly know the only true God, trust him alone, and look to God for every good thing humbly and patiently, and love, fear, and honor God with all my heart. In short, that I give up anything rather than go against God’s will in any way.
